Engines with timing belts must have the timing belt and related components replaced at specific intervals.  Because most modern engines are “interference” engines, on-time timing belt replacement is essential to avoid costly engine damage.  The intervals vary from about 60,000 miles to 110,000 miles, depending on manufacturer.
